Frequently asked questions about formula, pouches and cereals.

Formula

What is the best nutrition for my baby?

For mums who are able to, breastfeeding is best for babies. It delivers many benefits for both mum and baby. Breastmilk contains all the nutrients your growing bub needs to thrive, especially in the first 6 months of life, plus antibodies to help them fight infections.

It’s important for pregnant and breastfeeding mums to maintain good nutrition. Deciding to use a combination of breast and bottle-feeding for an extended period may reduce your own breast milk supply, and reversing your decision may be difficult.

When using infant formula, follow the feeding guide and preparation directions carefully. Improper use or incorrect preparation of infant formula can make your baby ill.

Consult your doctor or health care professional for advice prior to using the formula to feed your baby. You should also consider the social and financial implications before deciding to use infant formula.

By clicking the "I agree" button, you are confirming that you wish to view information about Bubs Baby Formula on this site, and have read and understood that it is provided for educational and informational purposes only.

Is your tin recyclable and BPA free?

Yes! Bubs Organic® formula tins are fully recyclable and BPA free; this includes our tins, lids and scoops.

Changing brands or between stages is causing discomfort.

All babies react to changes in formula differently. Due to the sensitivity of their tiny tummy, they may experience some changes in their stools. A baby’s digestive system will settle down. To give your baby a smooth transition from another brand formula to Bubs formula (or between Bubs Formula Stages), it is best to do so gradually by mix feeding with a transition plan by mixing the old and new powders at certain rations over a few days, giving the baby's digestive system a chance to adapt slowly. If your baby’s symptoms persist, seek advice from your healthcare professional.

Below please find a transition plan table:

Do you have formula samples, or can I buy some samples?

Unfortunately, we do not give out or sell samples of Bubs Goat milk formula. We voluntarily comply with World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations, and the Marketing in Australia of Infant Formulas (MAIF) agreement, which does not support the sampling of infant formulas by manufacturers directly to parents or carers of babies. This means we are unable to supply baby formula samples.

How should you store the formula?

Store your Bubs formula direct from sunlight in a cool, clean location such as a pantry. Ideally under 25°C.

Can you freeze formula?

We don't recommend freezing the formula. You don't need to as it can be stored at room temperature and can be used for up to 4 weeks after opening the foil seal. We do not recommend you freeze any formula in the freezer for a number of reasons. Storing powder in refrigerated conditions exposes the powder to condensation. This can cause the powdered ingredients to clump. As a result, the powder may not mix/reconstitute as well when formula is prepared. We recommend that you store it in the pantry for up to 4 weeks.

Why is there a gap in the tin of formula?

Formula powders are packed by weight, not volume, powder tends to settle and compress over time, so at the time of filling, the product level normally sits higher compared to where it would be in 3 or 4 or 6 months later. Our state of the art equipment weighs every single tin to a high level of accuracy.

Why do you add vegetable oils in your goat formula and not your cow formula?

There are very specific requirements for the fatty acid composition of baby formula, which are regulated by Australian and international standards. The fatty acid composition in Goat milk is also different to Cow milk, so sufficient quantities of the correct type of oil is needed, as different oil types have specific fatty acid properties. We use sustainable palm oil from certified sources for our Goat milk formula, and organic vegetable oil blend of sunflower, coconut, soy canola for our Cow milk formula. This enables the fatty acid composition of our baby formula to meet the required composition under the standards.

Goat Formula

Can you drink goat milk if you’re allergic to cow milk?

Every parent knows that their child’s life journey is unique and special. Here at Bubs, we are committed to providing vital nutrition for little bodies, so they can grow, flourish and have the very best start in those critical early years.

It is important to note, if your child has been clinically diagnosed with a cow milk protein allergy, you should consult with your health care professional, as goat milk is not the right solution, given it still does contain milk proteins.

What is the ratio of whey protein & casein protein in the goat formula?

The Whey to Casein ratio changes with the formula and with the changing nutritional demand for babies, for example, stages 1 and 2 have 60% whey protein and 40% casein. In Stage 3, it drops to the natural levels of whey to casein in milk of around 80:20.

Is the goat milk formula gluten free?

Yes, our Goat Formula is gluten free.

What is lactose? Why do you add lactose to your goat formula?

Lactose is a natural sugar found in Goat milk and is naturally present in all mammals’ milks.  It’s considered to be the ideal form of carbohydrate for babies. In fact, some countries actually require lactose to be >90% of the total carbohydrate content in baby formula. Australian food standards for infant formula very clearly define the nutritional content limits that all formula products must meet. Hence, in order to meet those requirements, we need to add the right ingredients in the right proportions to deliver on those nutritional targets.

Organic Cow Formula

What does PPO+ stand for in organic cow formula

Bubs advanced organic grass-fed formulation carries a PPO+ icon. The PPO+ symbol stands for our high-quality ingredients and formulation, including Prebiotics, Probiotics, Organic Plus (PPO+) other essential nutrients to help support your growing baby and toddler’s nutritional needs. Our additional nutrients include DHA and ARA as well as 16 or more additional vitamins and minerals (depending on the Formula Stage).

Bubs Organic® Formula range is available at Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse stores.

Does your cow formula contain Omega-3 DHA & Omega-6 ARA?

Yes! Bubs Organic® formula range contains DHA (Omega-3) and ARA (Omega-6). These are long chain fatty acids. Unlike other organic toddler milk, Bubs® proudly sources BOTH DHA and Ara from plants. This removes the fish oil allergen and improves the taste.

Does your cow formula contain prebiotics & probiotics?

Yes! Bubs Organic® formula range contains both Prebiotics and Probiotics. Our formula contains Prebiotic Galacto-Oligosaccarides (GOS) and the Probiotic strain called Bifidobacterium longum (BB536).

Why choose a grass-fed cow formula?

Our cows graze outdoors 365 days a year, enjoying some of the best conditions in the world. They roam freely within their paddocks, expressing natural behaviors, helping them produce high quality milk. A grass-fed diet improves the quality of cow’s milk as it is richer in omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, beta-carotenes and CLA when compared to other types of milk.

Why choose an organic formula?

The way food is grown, sourced and made impacts your baby’s health as well as the environment. By using certified organic produce you can be sure your baby is obtaining its nutrients from pure ingredients, as well as supporting farmers who aim towards ecologically sustainable practices.
Certified organic formula is a natural formula choice as it is free from GMO, pesticides, chemicals and preservatives. Our farmers never use growth hormones or antibiotics.

Bubs Organic® grass fed formula range is dual certified organic by ACO and NASAA, Australia’s leading accreditation bodies.

Do the pouches need to be refrigerated?

Before opening the pouches do not need to be refrigerated. They can be stored in the pantry and served by the used by date. Once the pouches are opened, reseal and keep them refrigerated and consume within 48 hours.

What is the cooking process for the pouches?

Our pouches are processed using a very unique method of minimal heat and cooking time.

  1. Our organic fruit and vegetables come from organic certified farms, they are picked just at the right time to ensure freshness, quality and taste.
  1. In our fruit combinations, we mix our ingredient combinations cold and without heat, to avoid the loss of nutrients due to heat production.
  1. Once the ingredients are ready for packaging, they are heated, in order to further avoid nutrient loss. This process also preserves the product in the pouch.

Are the pouches gluten free?

Bubs pouches do not contain gluten in the ingredients. However, the products may contain traces of gluten as they are manufactured on machinery that may produce products with gluten in their ingredients.

Do your pouches contain dairy, nuts or eggs?

Our production facility, that produces the Bubs puree, actively avoids the processing of any products containing dairy, peanuts and tree nuts. This is actively controlled by the facility’s allergen management program which contains standard operating procedures designed to effectively control and prevent the possibility of cross contamination of allergenic material to other products.

Yes, all our Bubs Organic Wet pouches are Kosher certified by The Kashrut Authority.

Cereals

Is your organic cereal suitable for vegans?

Yes, our Bubs Organic Cereal range is Vegan friendly.

Rusks

Are the Toothy Rusks dairy free?

The rusks do not have any dairy in the ingredients, but the line also processes products that contain dairy. This is the case with all other rusk products on the market in Australia.

Ingredients

Where do you source your ingredients from?

Our company policy is to source our organic ingredients from Australia where possible, and aim to have our food products made here in Australia. In some instances, where seasonal or availability issues prevent us from sourcing Australian produce, we import raw ingredients from trusted international partners.

Sadly there are not enough farms in Australia to supply the ingredients in sufficient volumes for our production.

Are all of your products GMO free?

Bubs Organic baby food products are proudly certified organic by ACO, Australia’s largest organic certifying body. ACO are approved, accredited and recognised by the Department of Agriculture & Water Resources Australia. In addition, our products undergo strict quality control, they do not contain any artificial ingredients, and are free from GMO ingredients, pesticides and chemicals.

Your goat milk formula does not have 100% Australian ingredients, why is that?

Our company policy is to source as many ingredients as possible from Australia. However, some specialty ingredients are not available from local sources. For example, Australia does not produce Goat Whey Protein Concentrate so we have no choice but to import it from the Netherlands. Other ingredients that are not manufactured in Australia include some of the oils and the vitamins we use to formulate our products.

What are Probiotics and what do they do?

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria normally present in the digestive tract. They have many benefits to the human body including fighting disease.

The gastrointestinal tract is sterile at birth and normal gut flora develops gradually the first few years of life. Research suggests that the baby gets its flora seeding from the mother’s birth canal, but with the increase of cesarean births, a lot of babies may not be getting their flora from their mothers bodies as nature intended.

In addition to the above, our bodies evolved over millions of years and our ancestors have lived in harmony with nature. Modern life, however, has disturbed this harmony – our water and food are clean, we sanitise surfaces at home, we wash our hands with antibacterial soap, and we take medication that kills bacteria. This has created a situation where the human body can’t maintain a healthy level of the good gut bacteria.

Why is Goat Milk used in this supplement?

Goat milk is naturally gentle on the digestive system. Small A2 protein molecules in goat milk are easy to break down. Easily-digested, short and medium chain fatty-acids in in goat milk make it a valuable enhancement for the formulation. Together goat milk and bovine colostrum supply a well-rounded range of macro and micro-nutrients that support immunity, gut health and general wellbeing.

What source of DHA do you use?

The concentrated DHA oil used in this Vita Bubs product is derived from anchovy which is sustainably caught. This is important as anchovy feed and live closer to the surface of the ocean, and unlike deep sea fish are less likely to absorb high levels of mercury or heavy metals.

Vita Bubs is the First Omega-3 and DHA Chewable Tablet in Australia. Others come in liquid/oil form, which is less pleasant tasting for children.

Why take a Multi Vitamin?

Children’s bodies are undergoing rapid growth and development. It’s crucial they have sufficient intake of vitamins and minerals every day to support healthy growth and development. In fact, 70% of children 2 – 18 years old were not meeting the recommended dietary intakes (RDI) for most vitamins and minerals¹. In 2014-15, only 5% of children ate sufficient serves of vegetables².

Vita Bubs Multi Vitamins contains a comprehensive range of vitamins for everyday use that may be missing from children’s diets, suitable for fussy eaters. The key nutrients of this formulation support healthy growth and development, immune health, brain development and enhances energy levels in children.
